When we are under stress, the quality of the signals becomes very incoherent and our hormonal system releases a cascade of over 1400 bio-chemicals into the system. Cortisol being commonly known as the "stress hormone".  

If you are constantly under stress, then you are continually dumping these bio-chemicals into the body not allowing it to recover and come back into a coherent state. This has a negative impact on the quality of your sleep, you tend to overreact to the smallest of things, your clarity of thought is impeded as well as the level of intelligence and creativity that you operate with.  What is also interesting is that a confluence of depleting emotions contribute to these stressors in significant ways.

The great news is we can influence these systems in a very positive way, by working with the Heart.  In fact one of the common side effects when practicing the HeartMath ® techniques can be a drop in blood pressure - the internal body systems synchronize and harmonize.
